Stephen Husarik

Stephen Husarik - Distinguished Musicologist, Author, and Educator

Stephen Husarik is a distinguished academic and accomplished musician whose contributions to the field of musicology and humanities education span decades. He currently serves as professor of humanities and music at the University of Arkansas, Fort Smith, where he has taught for over 30 years. During his tenure, Stephen Husarik has taught thousands of students and regularly performed carillon concerts from the Donald W. Reynolds Bell Tower, which are part of the university’s public programming.

Mr. Husarik earned a bachelor’s degree in art education from the Art Institute of Chicago, where he created the acclaimed drawing "Untitled" for the Annual Chicago Show of Artists. He later earned a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees in piano performance and musicology at the University of Illinois. He earned a PhD in music literature from the University of Iowa, where he authored a comprehensive study on Josef Hofmann’s performance style and catalog of works. He also pursued postgraduate studies at Harvard University, where some of his analytical work on Beethoven's music was published in The Musical Times.

In recognition of his scholarly excellence, Mr. Husarik has received multiple fellowships and teaching awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as institutional honors from UAFS. He is the author of Humanities Across the Arts, a nationally reviewed college textbook, and editor of the first digital publication of Erzherzog Rudolph's Musikalien Register. Mr. Husarik has served as chair and editor for national scholarly organizations and continues to present his research internationally.
